Champions League Gameweek 1″>PSV
opened the curtain on the new Champions League season with a visit to Italy to face Juventus. Mexican player Hirving Lozano was absent from PSV’s debut in the 2024-2025 Champions League against Juventus, a team led by Thiago Motta that aims to regain its status as a top contender in Italy and Europe after struggling in previous seasons.Lozano is currently sidelined with a muscle injury, according to the official UEFA Champions League website. This injury also prevented him from participating in PSV’s 2-0 victory over NEC Nijmegen in the Dutch league last weekend.
In his final months as a PSV player, Lozano has had an extraordinary start to the new Eredivisie campaign. In four matches, he has scored four goals and provided one assist in just 222 minutes of play. It should be noted that Lozano will leave PSV at the end of the year to join San Diego FC, which will make its debut in MLS in 2025.
Since arriving on the European scene, Lozano has participated in four seasons of what is considered the best club competition worldwide. The “Chucky” has played 29 matches in the Champions League and has scored four goals and provided two assists. Some of his notable performances include scoring against Tottenham and Inter Milan in 2018, as well as his outstanding display against Eintracht Frankfurt in the round of 16 of Napoli’s campaign last year.
PSV is known for its goal-scoring prowess. In the previous Eredivisie season (2023-24), they not only won their domestic league but also scored an impressive total of 111 goals while conceding only 21. In this current season, they have already netted 18 goals in just four matches, and fans hope their offensive power will translate into success on European soil.
PSV faces tough opponents such as Juventus, PSG, and Liverpool during this Champions League campaign. These teams boast star-studded squads and are considered favorites to reach later stages of competition. However, PSV will also encounter supposedly weaker teams like Brest and Red Star Belgrade; although these away fixtures won’t be easy wins if they want to advance past group stage.
