Son Heung-min’s fitness and availability for Tottenham Hotspur’s match against Manchester United is uncertain, as manager Ange Postecoglou provided an update on the captain’s status. Son was substituted in the team’s Europa League opener against Qarabag FK, with Postecoglou stating that the player was tired but didn’t have any further information from the medical staff. The club reported that Son appeared to be in discomfort when he came off the pitch.
Postecoglou mentioned in a press conference on Friday, “Apart from Sonny, everyone’s OK. And Sonny I don’t think’s too bad. He wants to train tomorrow so we’ll see how it goes at training tomorrow and make a decision from there. We have another day up our sleeve to give him every chance.”
If Son is unable to play at Old Trafford, it would be a significant loss for Tottenham. The last time he missed a Premier League game due to injury was in November 2022 when he suffered a fractured eye socket. So far this season, he has played in seven games across all competitions and has contributed two goals and assists in the league.
Tottenham’s attack features Dominic Solanke and an in-form Brennan Johnson alongside Son. If Son is unavailable, Postecoglou has several options at his disposal. He could bring Timo Werner into the left position or move Johnson out wide while pushing Dejan Kulusevski forward.
It is also possible that Son may be named on the bench and brought on as a substitute later if he is not fully fit to start.
