Liberal Democratic Party President Shigeru Ishiba has been appointed as the new prime minister in an extraordinary Diet session held on Tuesday. Following the investiture ceremony for Ishiba and the attestation ceremony for newly appointed ministers at the Imperial Palace, the new Cabinet was launched on Tuesday night.
During a press conference that evening, Ishiba outlined his administration’s basic policies and major policy agendas. The primary focus of the new Cabinet will be on restoration and reconstruction efforts in areas affected by the Noto Peninsula Earthquake, as well as revitalizing local economies.
Ishiba also announced plans to dissolve the House of Representatives on October 9th and hold a lower house election. The official start of the campaign is set for October 15th, with voting and ballot counting scheduled for October 27th.
