One week has passed since heavy rains caused significant damage in the northern part of the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture. The aftermath of the disaster has been devastating, with 10 confirmed deaths so far. On Wednesday, a body was found in Wajima, and authorities are investigating its connection to the heavy rain. Over the weekend, two more bodies were discovered, one in Wajima and another in Noto.
The search for missing individuals or those who cannot be contacted is ongoing. Early Saturday morning, search efforts intensified in the Futegawa area of Wajima where two people remain unreachable due to flooding from the Tsukada River. Approximately 530 personnel were involved in this extensive search operation.
According to reports from the prefectural government on Friday afternoon, a total of 456 people were seeking refuge across 27 evacuation centers located in Wajima, Suzu, and Noto. Additionally, water supply remained cut off for 4,253 households across these three municipalities. Furthermore, road closures affected transportation as there were 29 locations on 18 routes within the Noto region that remained inaccessible.
