The Japanese game industry is planning to increase the transparency of its data on average annual income and market size in order to attract talented individuals, according to Haruhiro Tsujimoto, chairman of the Computer Entertainment Suppliers Association (CESA). Tsujimoto, who is also the president of Capcom Co., stated in an interview that they aim to showcase the industry’s current growth and gain recognition both within Japan and internationally. As part of this effort, CESA will enhance their annual report, known as the CESA Games White Paper, by including more employment-related information such as salaries and average workforce ages. This move aligns with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s vision for “new capitalism,” which emphasizes improving working conditions and expanding overseas sales in industries like gaming.
Tsujimoto also expressed his desire to collaborate with educational institutions in order to create an environment where high school students can learn about game development. He believes that fostering interest at a young age is crucial for attracting future talent. The Tokyo Game Show, hosted by CESA at the Makuhari Messe convention center near Tokyo, will be held from September 23rd until September 29th. The event will feature exhibitors from various countries including China and Saudi Arabia. Tsujimoto highlighted that these international investments are a testament to the potential of games as a lucrative industry.
By providing more comprehensive data on income and market size, the Japanese game industry hopes to demonstrate its appeal and encourage individuals both inside and outside Japan to consider pursuing careers in this field.
