The Japanese government has announced that it will be sending a senior official to Shenzhen, China, in response to a tragic incident where a boy attending a local Japanese school was fatally stabbed by a Chinese man. Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa made this announcement during a press conference on Friday. The purpose of dispatching the official is to ask China for clarification on the facts of the case and to ensure the safety of Japanese nationals living in the area.
Government sources have indicated that Senior Vice Foreign Minister Yoshifumi Tsuge is expected to be sent as the representative. Kamikawa emphasized that they are taking this incident very seriously and will do everything they can to address it. One measure being considered is strengthening safety measures for students commuting to Japanese schools across China.
In addition, Ambassador to China Kenji Kanasugi has already been sent by the government to Shenzhen. The Chinese government has been urged by Japan to conduct a thorough investigation into the case and take steps to prevent any similar incidents from occurring in the future.
Kamikawa also highlighted that so far, the Chinese side has only referred to this attack as an isolated incident. It remains unclear whether there are any underlying factors or motives behind this tragic event.
The dispatching of officials and calls for further investigation demonstrate Japan’s commitment towards ensuring justice for its citizens abroad and maintaining strong diplomatic relations with China.
