Actor Eric Roberts has issued an apology to his sister, Julia Roberts, for previously claiming that he was responsible for her success in the entertainment industry. In his recently released memoir, titled “Runaway Train: Or, the Story of My Life So Far,” Eric expressed regret for his past remarks. He admitted that it was untrue and unfortunate to have said that without him, there would be no Julia Roberts. Eric hopes that Julia will accept his public apology.
Eric’s comments can be traced back to a 2018 interview with Vanity Fair where he boasted about being the one who introduced Julia to talent agency William Morris before she became famous with her role in “Mystic Pizza.” He claimed to be proud of being the first in their family to receive Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations.
In addition to discussing his relationship with Julia, Eric also took credit for the success of his daughter Emma Roberts during the same Vanity Fair interview. However, he acknowledged in his memoir how drug addiction affected their relationship and led him to lose custody of Emma when she was just a baby.
During a podcast appearance in July on ”Still Here Hollywood,” Eric expressed admiration for Emma’s career and stated how proud he is of her accomplishments over more than two decades. Some notable performances by Emma include roles in FX horror series “American Horror Story” and films such as “Aquamarine,” “Scream 4,” “We’re the Millers,” and “Nerve.”
Eric himself had a breakthrough role in 1978 when he starred alongside Susan Sarandon, Brooke Shields, and Annette O’Toole in “King of the Gypsies.” This performance earned him his first Golden Globe nomination. Throughout the ’80s, Eric continued to take on various roles and received critical acclaim for films like “Star 80″ and “Runaway Train,” which earned him an Oscar nomination.
Julia made her film debut nearly a decade after her brother’s success with her appearance in the comedy-drama film “Firehouse” (1987). She quickly rose to fame through iconic roles in movies like “Mystic Pizza,” “Steel Magnolias,” “Pretty Woman,” “Sleeping With The Enemy,” “Hook,” “The Pelican Brief,” “Stepmom,” “Notting Hill,” and ultimately winning an Oscar for Best Actress for her performance in “Erin Brockovich.”
Eric Roberts has publicly apologized to Julia Roberts for previously claiming credit for her rise to fame. His memoir reflects on their relationship as well as acknowledging how drug addiction impacted both their lives. Meanwhile, both siblings have achieved significant success within Hollywood throughout their careers.
