Looks like Al Nassr is ready to turn the corner. Fresh off parting ways with head coach Luis Castro, the Knights of the Najd have found a silver lining with the arrival of Stefano Pioli. The former AC Milan boss faces his first challenge tonight against Steven Gerrard’s Al Ettifaq. However, beyond Pioli’s debut, concerns remain about whether Cristiano Ronaldo will travel with the team ahead of the debut of his new coach.
The Portuguese superstar missed the previous fixture after being diagnosed with a viral infection. Before the Al Ahli Saudi clash, Al Nassr released a statement to address his absence stating that the 39-year-old needs significant rest to recover from being under the weather. Hence, instead of traveling with the team, he stayed back home to watch his teammates play a 1-1 draw against Al Ahli Saudi.
Notably, recent reports revealed that after Luis Castro’s dismissal, players were informed upon arrival that the training session had been canceled. While they had the option to either stay and train or head home, only two players chose to remain—Ronaldo and Aymeric Laporte. He was also present during a quick briefing of the team under new coach Pioli.
The skipper’s return to training also suggests that there has been a significant improvement in his health. Ergo, fans can expect Cristiano Ronaldo to play tonight against Al Ettifaq.
