Bruno Fernandes’ recent performances have raised concerns among Manchester United fans, as the Portuguese midfielder continues to hinder the team’s attack.
Fernandes has always been a frustrating player to watch, with his tendency to go to ground easily and provoke opponents. However, his impact in the final third of the pitch has often made up for these shortcomings.
Unfortunately, this season things have changed. Fernandes’ latest disappointing display came in United’s Europa League opener against Twente, where they were held to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.
The home side took the lead thanks to a brilliant goal from Christian Eriksen but failed to hold on as Sam Lammers capitalized on a defensive mistake. “We were too complacent,” said United manager Erik ten Hag after the match. “We didn’t bring it over the line and as a team, you have to deliver this.”
Ten Hag’s comments could easily be directed at Fernandes himself, who has been lackluster for several weeks now. Despite this poor form, he remains an integral part of the team and is seemingly undroppable.
If Manchester United wants to turn their season around and if Ten Hag hopes to keep his job, they cannot ignore Fernandes’ decline any longer. The captain has become a significant problem that needs addressing immediately.
