The Denver Broncos have made some roster changes ahead of their game against the Jets. Defensive back Tanner McCalister and linebacker Levelle Bailey have been elevated from the practice squad to the active roster. This is McCalister’s second consecutive week being elevated, as safety JL Skinner remains ruled out. McCalister will provide depth and is expected to contribute on special teams during the game.
For Bailey, this will be his first opportunity to play in a regular-season game. The undrafted rookie initially made the 53-man roster but was later waived when the Broncos signed special teamer Kristian Welch. With Alex Singleton out for the year due to an ACL injury and veterans Kwon Alexander and Zach Cunningham not yet ready, Bailey has been given a chance to step up.
According to Mike Klis of 9NEWS Denver, Bailey is expected to play on special teams in place of Justin Strnad, who will see more playing time on defense. Strnad will start alongside Cody Barton in the Broncos defense as they face a tough challenge against Jets running backs Breece Hall and Braelon Allen.
This marks McCalister’s second elevation this season while it is Bailey’s first. It’s important to note that a player can only be elevated from the practice squad three times in a season, so it remains to be seen how this situation will unfold moving forward.
these roster changes reflect the Broncos’ need for additional depth and contributions from their young players as they aim for success throughout the remainder of the regular season.
