The Denver Broncos have made some roster moves ahead of their Week 4 game against the New York Jets. Linebacker Levelle Bailey and defensive back Tanner McCalister have been elevated from the practice squad to the gameday roster.
Bailey, an undrafted rookie from Fresno State, impressed during preseason with a pick-six and earned his spot on the initial 53-man roster. McCalister, who stands at 5-foot-11 and weighs 191 pounds, joined the Broncos as a free agent this offseason after playing four games with the Cleveland Browns last year.
Last week in Tampa, McCalister made a special-teams tackle in the team’s road victory against the Buccaneers. With several injuries affecting their roster over the past two weeks, including linebacker Alex Singleton being ruled out for the season, losing three starters in such a short span of time could be challenging for the Broncos. However, they managed to cope without rush linebacker Baron Browning and right tackle Mike McGlinchey last week.
To address Singleton’s injury, Denver signed former Pro Bowler Kwon Alexander and former Houston Texans second-round linebacker Zach Cunningham to their practice squad earlier this week. However, neither player will make their debut this week at MetLife Stadium. Instead, Bailey will be dressed for Sunday’s game due to his familiarity with the team’s scheme.
It remains to be seen if Alexander or Cunningham will be utilized next week or if another team signs them before then. Stay updated on all things Broncos by following Mile High Huddle on Twitter and facebook or subscribing to their youtube channel for daily live-stream podcasts.
