Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has acknowledged that winger Wilson Odobert appears to have sustained a “fairly significant” injury. The club signed the 19-year-old from Burnley for a deal worth up to £30m during the summer, but his third start for Spurs was cut short due to a muscular injury just 18 minutes into Wednesday’s thrilling 2-1 victory over Coventry City.
When asked about Odobert’s condition after the game, Postecoglou admitted it was difficult to provide an update: “Hard to say. Wilson’s looks fairly significant so we’ll just wait and see.” Unfortunately, Odobert wasn’t the only player affected by injuries in the match. Fellow winger Timo Werner also suffered an injury during the latter stages of the second half.
Postecoglou revealed after the final whistle that he wasn’t sure if Werner’s injury was simply due to fatigue: “A bit unfortunate both of those, they play in a similar position. We hope it’s nothing too significant.” Late goals from Djed Spence and Brennan Johnson saved Spurs from a major upset at a time when pressure has been mounting on Postecoglou. The manager will be hoping for positive updates on these injuries ahead of Saturday’s clash with Brentford.
