Admission tickets to the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo, set to begin in April, will be given as return gifts to donors of the furusato nozei tax donation system. According to the criteria established by the Internal Affairs and Communications Ministry, return gifts for this tax system must be local products produced within the area of the local entity involved.
In July, the Osaka city government submitted an application to have Expo tickets approved as return gifts. They argued that since the Expo will take place on Yumeshima, a reclaimed island within Osaka City, these tickets can be considered local products. The ministry granted approval for this request on September 26th.
The city government is currently considering various types of tickets that can serve as return gifts. These options include a One-Day Ticket priced at ¥6,000 for adults during the Super Early Bird period, allowing entry anytime throughout the Expo’s duration. Another option is a Season Pass ticket priced at ¥30,000 for adults which permits multiple entries until October 3rd – ten days before the Expo concludes.
Further discussions will take place regarding details such as donation amounts required to receive these tickets as return gifts and when donors can apply for them.
