The New York Yankees have secured a spot in this year’s postseason, becoming the first American League team to do so. They clinched at least an AL Wild Card berth with a 2-1, 10-inning victory over the Mariners on Wednesday evening. However, their sights are set on much more than just a Wild Card spot.
It has been 15 years since the Yankees last appeared in a World Series and won their 27th championship. The team is determined to bring home another title this year. Manager Aaron Boone expressed his excitement about the opportunity and believes that they have as good a chance as anyone.
Currently leading the AL East by five games over the Orioles, the Yankees are focused on finishing strong and securing their division title. They have 10 regular-season games remaining to maintain their lead.
Looking ahead to the postseason, if it started today, the Yankees would be the No. 1 seed in the American League and would face either the Royals or Orioles in an AL Wild Card Series. The team has had success against both opponents this season.
As for their playoff roster, rosters will revert to 26 players for postseason play with a maximum of 13 pitchers allowed. While there is still time before final decisions need to be made, an early guess at potential roster composition includes players like Austin Wells and Jose Trevino at catcher, Anthony Rizzo at first base, Gleyber Torres at second base, Anthony Volpe and Oswaldo Cabrera at shortstop, Jazz Chisholm Jr., Jon Berti at third base, Jasson Domínguez and Alex Verdugo in left field, Aaron Judge and Trent Grisham in center field Juan Soto in right field Giancarlo Stanton as designated hitter Gerrit Cole Carlos Rodón Luis Gil as starting pitchers Nestor Cortes Jake Cousins Ian Hamilton Tim Hill Clay Holmes Tommy Kahnle Clarke Schmidt Marcus Stroman Luke Weaver as relief pitchers.
The playoffs are scheduled to begin on October 1st with AL Wild Card Series games taking place from October 1st-3rd. If all goes well for them during that round of play-offs then they will move onto playing against other teams from around America such as Kansas City Royals or Baltimore Orioles who could potentially win one game series which would determine whether or not they advance further into post-season competition where there may be more opportunities available depending upon how things go throughout each subsequent round leading up until World Series itself begins sometime later down line after all other rounds have been completed successfully without any major hiccups along way towards achieving ultimate goal of winning championship title once again.
