At last, playoff baseball is here! It has been 341 days since our last MLB postseason game, and we are finally ready to kick off the 2024 World Series. But before we get there, we have a whole bunch of games to enjoy. Today marks the start of the Wild Card Series, with four games scheduled. Tomorrow will bring four more games, and who knows, maybe even four more on Thursday.
Let’s take a look at the top storyline from each of Tuesday’s Wild Card Series openers.
First up, can Tarik Skubal keep the Tigers’ momentum going? The Tigers surprised everyone by reaching their first postseason series since 2014. Skubal has been dominant on the mound lately with a 1.52 ERA in September. He will face off against Framber Valdez, who has also been impressive for the Astros.
Next, will Bobby Witt Jr. get any help from his teammates? The Orioles haven’t won a postseason game in nearly a decade but have an opportunity to end that drought in this series against the Royals. Witt has been carrying much of the offensive load for Kansas City recently due to injuries within their lineup.
Moving on, which team has better vibes? Both Mets and Brewers fans have reasons to feel fortunate this season. The Mets had a rough year in 2023 but managed to make it back to the playoffs with an underdog season led by Francisco Lindor. Meanwhile, despite losing key players like Craig Counsell and Corbin Burnes during the offseason, the Brewers improved and provided plenty of excitement throughout their campaign.
Lastly, how will Braves’ pitching situation work out? With multiple doubleheaders recently and limited options for Game 1 starters due to previous starts or injuries, Atlanta faces challenges heading into this series against San Diego.
These are just some of today’s storylines as we embark on an exciting month of playoff baseball ahead!
